Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is to reach Islamabad on Friday evening, April 24, 2026, for the US talks, NDTV reported. Earlier in the day, Araghchi spoke to Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of defence forces Asim Munir.
Araghchi is set to arrive in Islamabad accompanied by a small delegation for high-level diplomatic discussions. Reuters reported that a US logistics and security team is already on the ground in the Pakistani capital, signalling that the anticipated peace talks between the two nations are likely to proceed.

Iran's semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported that the discussions focused on regional developments and issues related to the ceasefire. In a separate call, Araghchi also spoke with Nechirvan Barzani, president of Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdish region.
Separately, Tasnim reported that flights from Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport to Muscat and Istanbul are set to resume on Sunday. Iran has been gradually reopening its airspace under a phased plan that began on April 18.
This is the first sign for a truce to be achieved ever since the war started on Feb. 28. Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was assassinated on Feb. 28 in Tehran as part of a series of Israeli airstrikes targeting high-ranking Iranian officials, with his death confirmed by the Iranian government on March 1.
His daughter, granddaughter, son-in-law and daughter-in-law were also killed in the strikes. His son Mojtaba Khamenei was subsequently appointed Supreme Leader by the Assembly of Experts on March 8, 2026.
US President Donald Trump had indicated that a fresh round of talks with Iran could resume as early as Friday, while Pakistani officials said Tehran is scrambling to present a "unified" negotiating position, according to a report by The New York Post on April 22.
Speaking to The Post via text message, Trump said, “It's possible! President DJT,” when asked about the chances of renewed negotiations within the next few days.

The report added that Pakistan has continued its diplomatic outreach with Iran and believed a breakthrough could emerge soon.
Pakistani officials have described the current atmosphere as cautiously optimistic, pointing to the fact that the ceasefire between the US and Iran has largely held despite escalating rhetoric.
