A message circulating widely on social media platforms claims that users who fail to update their Aadhaar details will have their SBI YONO app blocked.
The message further urges users to download and install an APK file to complete the Aadhaar update process.
However, the Fact Check unit of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has flagged this claim as false.
In a ‘X' post on Sunday, March 1, PIB Fact Check clarified that the message warning of SBI YONO app blockage is fake.
“Is it true that your SBI YONO app will be blocked if you don't update your Aadhaar? What happens if you download such an app or document?
According to SBI's official website, downloading scam applications, often distributed as APK files on Android devices, or opening malicious documents such as PDFs or Word files can have serious consequences.
These files may lead to immediate financial loss, theft of personal and banking data, or even long-term compromise of a user's device.
Such malicious files are designed to remain hidden within the device, often appearing harmless until they are opened or granted permissions.

Documents may contain hidden malicious payloads, including scripts or embedded executable files that run automatically when opened. In many cases, this can result in the installation of spyware, ransomware, or Trojan malware.
These documents or apps may also redirect users to phishing websites designed to steal login credentials, banking information, or Aadhaar details.
Users can report suspicious messages to report.phishing@sbi.co.in for necessary action.
