A social media post has triggered concern online after a user shared an AI-generated image of what appeared to be a bank cheque.

The image was posted on X and quickly gained attention for its realistic appearance. The user, identified as Shirish, shared what looked like an official cheque from UCO Bank for an amount of Rs 69,000.

The cheque was shown as being issued in his own name. He claimed that the image was created using ChatGPT Images 2.0, a recently launched image generation tool by OpenAI.

The post was carrying the caption, "We are so cooked."

The image appeared highly detailed, showing elements usually found on a real cheque, including an account number, branch details, a signature line, and a MICR band at the bottom. Its realistic design led to concern among several users on the platform, with many expressing difficulty in distinguishing it from a real cheque.

Reactions on social media were mixed, though many users expressed fear over the development. Some users said that such images make it harder to trust visual content online, including both photos and videos. “When I ask him to do this kind of stuff it just become most sane AI to ever exist,” wrote a user.

Responding to this, Shirish said, “there are certain tricks that you can use to bypass it. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.”

Another user questioned the implications, stating, “this is a serious breach of law and policy. How can AI create a fake cheque?” Some others said that such outputs were not expected from ChatGPT at all.

At the same time, a section of users expressed doubt about the actual risk of fraud.

“Check fraud detection has been solved for a decade. The fake looks convincing to humans, not to the actual systems that clear deposits. We're less cooked than it feels,” said another user.

“That's just too amazing! Can't even trust my own eyes now. What else can't you guys create? Haha, we're definitely cooked,” wrote one user.

“The new image model is actually insane,” one user said, while another added, “You need ai to fight ai.”

“yeah this is exactly where it gets scary if something that looks this real can be generated that easily, most people won't even question it anymore.the line between “fake” and “looks legit” is basically gone at this point,” said another.

Another user commented on possible future changes, writing, “Soon we may got to digital to paper to avoid fraud.”

OpenAI recently introduced ChatGPT Images 2.0, describing it as a tool that “can take on complex visual tasks and produce precise, immediately usable visuals, with sharper editing, richer layouts, and thinking-level intelligence.”
