A flurry of viral posts on April 1 triggered widespread uncertainty among X users, suggesting that the platform had scrapped the ability to copy video links. The claims gathered pace rapidly, with many reporting difficulties in sharing videos via direct URLs, leading to speculation over a potential update.

Several viral posts alleged that X had quietly removed the ability to copy video links. Some suggested the move was intentional, possibly targeting specific content such as political videos.

Several users posted tweets along the lines of, “You can't copy video links anymore, the video automatically starts playing.”

Doubts over the claims grew rapidly, with users reporting inconsistent results. Many maintained that the feature was operating normally without any noticeable change. It turns out it was simply an April Fool's prank.

“Just copied this video link... Why are people saying that copying video links isn't possible anymore?” said one user.

“Some idiots did it for April Fools yesterday. Otherwise it's all Engagement farming. One does and the other sheep follow,” posted another account.

One person wrote, “Engagement farming. Nothing else. One idiot will start and rest will follow.”

“You can still copy the link of any video on X!! All the other accounts are just doing engagement farming!” noted a user.

Initial concerns have proved unfounded, with no official update made to video link functionality on X. The feature remains fully operational on both the app and web versions of the platform.

The process remains straightforward. Mobile users can open a post, tap the share icon and select "Copy link", while desktop users can still right-click and copy the video address without any problems.
