An influencer has sparked a discussion online after revealing the rent of a two-bedroom apartment in Mumbai's Parel. The flat, shared by two software engineers, has a modest 700-square-foot built-up area in a high-rise. However, its unexpectedly high rental cost has shocked many users, triggering a debate about the inflated rents in cities like Mumbai.

Influencer Arya Kothari shared a video on Instagram last week, featuring a tour of a rented apartment in Parel. Before stepping inside, Kothari asked one of the residents about the rental cost of the place. In response, the woman explained, "We pay around Rs 1 lakh in rent". She added that their two-bedroom apartment is about 700 square feet and that the rent includes maintenance charges.

In the clip, the tour starts in the living room. When asked about the apartment layout, the resident explained: "It is a two-bedroom flat."

She pointed out the master bedroom, which belonged to her and noted that it was relatively bigger.

The video also showed the second bedroom, which housed another woman. During the interaction, the flatmate was particularly excited about the view from the apartment.

"You can actually see the flights landing, takeoff. That's my favourite thing to do," the resident added.

The apartment is located in Parel, a central Mumbai neighbourhood known for its high-rise residential buildings and proximity to major business districts. During the tour, the residents shared that they spent most of their time in the living room.

"We lounge a lot. We have a lot of deep talks. We have a lot of career advice going on," one of them said.

Social Media Reacts

Reacting to the post, one user compared the price difference between Mumbai and other cities like Nashik:
"1 lakh????? Nashik mai itne emi mai 2 ghar kharid looo maii (1 lakh????? In Nashik, you could buy two houses for the same EMI)!"

Given the exorbitant rental cost of the place, many users were curious about the salaries of the two women. "Bro you should ask their CTC too," a user commented.

Others expressed concern about exorbitant rents in cities like Mumbai, which provided subpar facilities and lifestyle. "Why do people want to spend Singapore-equivalent rent in Mumbai!" one user commented. Another user said they are paying a similar rent in Borivali, which is located in northwestern Mumbai.

The video has received over 2.8 lakh likes and 1,300 comments, with most users questioning the logic behind such steep rents.
