Gaza's Techies
Real estate startup Mashivore became the first Palestinian startup to receive support from the American 500 Startups venture capital fund this week, reported wire agency PTI.
The online platform specialises in U.S. real estate data, allowing users to invest in the segment with confidence by providing real time idea on possible returns from those investments.
Mashivore though, is not the only company looking to promote technology and entrepreneurship in the violence stricken region.
Launched in 2011, Gaza Sky Geeks holds startup weekends in Gaza in the bid to educate people about technology and entrepreneurship. The first startup accelerator in Gaza, it took off in partnership with Google which supported it with a $900,000 grant. A few years later, Mercy Corps and GSG resorted to crowdfunding to help run events and pay for basics like rent, salaries, and Internet access, according to a Bloomberg report.
Providing jobs in a region with high unemployment and supporting women and young minds through their company is a big part of the company's purpose, the accelerator told Al Jazeera.

Twitter Buys Startup To Bag Its Founder

Keith Coleman earlier worked on products for Google's Gmail and other related services. He has been with veteran company for over a decade. Coleman's LinkedIn account also started reflecting the change in position from Saturday.
Coleman will report to Twitter's Chief Technological Officer Adam Messinger, according to his tweet on Friday.
Myntra's New CTO
Bengaluru based e-commerce startup Myntra has bagged a new chief technology officer, Ajit Narayanan, this week.
Narayanan, who was previously the senior vice president and head of engineering at Myntra, changed his job profile on LinkedIn to "Chief Technology Officer at Myntra".
Former CFT Shamik Sharma will now be associated with Myntra as senior technology advisor, according to his LinkedIn account. Myntra grew from $30 million to a $1 billion company during his tenure, Sharma said in his profile description.
Meru Cabs Loses Its CEO
Siddhartha Pahwa, chief executive officer of Meru Cabs has resigned, Pahwa disclosed on his LinkedIn post.
