Artificial intelligence has taken the world by storm since the advent of ChatGPT In 2023. In just three years, it has gone from being just an internet showpiece to becoming a critical part of modern corporate workforce and most system across the globe.

But AI continues to change business models and reshape the workforce, Arundhati Bhattacharya, President and CEO, Salesforce South Asia, believes there will come a time when physical robotics would take on the mantle of being the next big thing.

Speaking to NDTV Profit, Bhattacharya explained how the big shift in the industry will come from automation.

"So I think today we have digital agents; the next stage will be robotic agents. I think that's what it's going to come down to and I'm sure that's going to be the next wave that's going to come," she said.

She went on to talk about the widespread anxiety surrounding AI replacing jobs across the globe. She offered a rather pragmatic yet optimistic outlook, notably drawing a parallel to historical technological transitions.

"With respect of job losses, I think, you know, there will be changes in the roles that we do. I'm not again saying that temporarily there won't be some amount of displacement, but people will, you know, they will change, they will enable themselves and then, you know, they will definitely have jobs," she stated.

To illustrate how AI serves as an enabler rather than just a disruptor, Bhattacharya pointed to Salesforce's current focus on integrating AI into the education sector through its partnership with NMIMS.

She emphasized how technology can revolutionise student onboarding and counseling by removing cumbersome administrative tasks.

"So the lead-to-admission process is not only an outreach to students who might be interested in pursuing a career with this university, but also, you know, providing the right kind of inputs to the student, the right kind of counseling to the student to ensure that the student is being addressed for whatever they need and that they have a journey which is more or less smooth, they have a journey which is unified and they have richer inputs on the basis of which they can take decisions as to whether they want to pursue certain courses or otherwise," she said.

Ultimately, Bhattacharya believes this technological evolution will maximize human capability across all services.

"What AI will be able to do is bring in the hyper-personalization, bring in the insights from the data in order for us to ensure that people live up to potential," she concluded.
