Apple on Wednesday launched iPhone Duo, its first offering in the foldable segment, which also marks the company's biggest innovation in the last two decades.
The much-anticipated iPhone was unveiled at the Apple 'Surprise and Shine' event, and its starting price was confirmed as $1,999. Customers in over 70 countries, including India and the US, can begin placing pre-orders for the tech giant's inaugural foldable on Oct. 16.
Official retail sales and widespread availability are slated to commence a week later, on Oct. 23, with the device offered in up to 2TB storage capacities and two mirror-polished titanium finishes: star white and night sky.

The iPhone Duo aims to redefine mobile productivity by offering two distinct viewing experiences in a single grade 5 titanium chassis. When closed, the device functions as a compact smartphone featuring a 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display. Unfolding the precision-engineered hinge reveals a massive 7.6-inch inner display equipped with a glare-reducing nano-texture finish. To maintain an uninterrupted viewing canvas on the larger screen, Apple has integrated a new FaceTime camera hidden entirely beneath the display panel.

Under the hood, the foldable is powered by the flagship A20 Pro chip, paired with an advanced thermal management system that utilizes a custom vapor chamber. This configuration is designed to dissipate heat during intensive multitasking and complex artificial intelligence workloads, delivering up to 35 percent better sustained performance than previous generations. To support the demanding dual-screen setup, the device features an innovative dual-battery architecture that operates as a single power source, promising up to 44 hours of video playback on the outer display and 31 hours on the inner screen.

Running on a reimagined iOS 27, the iPhone Duo introduces desktop-class multitasking to the smartphone lineup. The new Split View feature allows users to run two apps side by side, seamlessly swapping windows or operating dual instances of the same application. The foldable is also deeply integrated with Apple Intelligence and an overhauled Siri AI. These on-device AI models analyze personal context and screen content in real time, transforming the phone into a highly secure, conversational smart hub.

Photography on the iPhone Duo leverages the folding form factor to unlock entirely new capture modes. The device houses a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera and a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide lens, while introducing features like Duo Preview, which utilizes the outer display as a live viewfinder for subjects. Furthermore, Apple has transitioned the iPhone Duo to an eSIM-only design worldwide to maximize internal space.
