GTA 6 launch date speculation is at its highest in over a decade of rumors and outright lies flying. However, things are getting very complicated and stressful for fans and Rockstar parent Take-Two Interactives may just have added to the confusion with Borderlands 4 announcement.
Take-Two Interactives had revealed the names of the new game launches and the tentative period in which that was expected to happen. The table that was attached had put GTA 6 launch date in the Fall period of 2025 and Borderlands 4 came one spot lower in the table. Yes, Borderlands 4 release was listed after GTA 6. This is as per the official quarterly results press release on February 6.
However, all bets are off now as Gearbox Software, the owner of Borderlands 4 has announced the launch date of the game. Notably, Take-Two owns Gearbox. Borderlands 4 launch date has been announced during the Sony State of Play event. The exact date is Sep. 23, 2025.
Where does this leave GTA 6 launch date? As mentioned above, GTA 6 release date was listed as "Fall of calendar 2025". Borderlands 4 was below that and release was listed as "Calendar 2025". No date and no season (Summer, Fall, Winter) was listed and it was widely presumed it would come after GTA release.
Now that all Borderlands 4 speculation has been put to rest, it leaves a big question mark about GTA 6 release.
If the order in Take-Two follows some corporate method and is not some random listing (well, considering it is a listed company, it should not be using random listings at all), then GTA 6 launch date should be ahead of that and not after.
Or will it? So far, most analysts have been indicating a GTA 6 launch date during the Fall period as referring to October or even November 2025.
Another GTA 6 launch date official quote by Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick that is being widely shared that says the company will not stack up two launches anywhere near each other. Money-wise, it would be foolish. Since there would be a huge number of Borderlands 4 buyers who would want to buy GTA 6 too, bringing both games out together would be counter-productive. He had told Variety, “...no one would, stack up huge releases unnecessarily.”
