BCCI Suspends IPL For One Week Amid Mounting India-Pakistan Tensions
The suspension follows the abrupt cancellation of the IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals on Thursday, May 8, 2025.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India said on Friday that the Indian Premier League has been suspended for one week. This decision comes amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, which could impact the safety and security of players and spectators.
The suspension follows the abrupt cancellation of the IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals on Thursday, May 8, 2025. The match, held in hill town Dharamshala, was halted midway after air raid alerts were issued in neighbouring cities of Jammu and Pathankot.
The Punjab side was 122 for 1 in 10.1 overs when the lights went out, initially attributed to floodlight failure. The game, which had already started late due to rain, was eventually called off, and teams and spectators were evacuated for their safety.

The remainder of ongoing #TATAIPL 2025 suspended with immediate effect for one week.
On Thursday, a blackout was enforced in several districts, including Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Mohali in Punjab, and Union Territory Chandigarh, amid air raid alarms and reports of explosion-like sounds in Jammu.
Tensions between India and Pakistan remain high following a series of cross-border strikes and retaliatory attacks. On Thursday night, India intercepted multiple drones and missiles launched by Pakistan targeting key military sites in Jammu, Pathankot, Udhampur, and Amritsar. The Indian defence ministry confirmed that all incoming threats were neutralised and emphasised that the country remains fully prepared to safeguard its sovereignty.
India’s Operation Sindoor, which began on May 7, targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and areas under its administration in Kashmir. These strikes were in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people.
