NASA is set to make history with the launch of its Artemis-II mission, sending humans around the Moon for the first time since 1972.

The 10-day mission will carry astronauts, including commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover, along with mission specialists Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen. This crew marks several milestones as Glover will be the first Black astronaut, Koch the first woman, and Hansen the first non-American to travel around the Moon.

The Artemis-II crew will not land on the Moon. Instead, this mission is a practice run and an important step toward NASA's goal of sending humans to the lunar surface, which is planned for 2028. The mission follows the success of Artemis-I, the uncrewed test flight in 2022.

Astronauts will test both the Orion spacecraft and their own readiness for deep-space flight during the 10-day mission. This flight will assist in verifying that all machinery and systems are prepared for upcoming Moon missions.

The mission is powered by the Space Launch System (SLS), NASA's most powerful rocket ever, which will carry the Orion spacecraft designed for deep-space travel.
