Devendra Fadnavis took oath as CM after being elected as leader of Maharashtra BJP legislative party. The swearing-in ceremony was held at Mumbai's Azad Maidan and attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and a host of other senior BJP leaders. Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde are new deputy CMs.

Devendra Fadnavis was sworn-in as chief minister of Maharashtra for the third time at a grand ceremony in Mumbai's Azad Maidan, attended by PM Narendra Modi and senior BJP and NDA leaders.

Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde and NCP leader Ajit Pawar took oath of office of deputy CM.

The Mahayuti secured a two-thirds majority in the Maharashtra assembly election last month.

Other ministers of the Maharashtra government are expected to be inducted in the coming days as hectic negotiations between the three parties carry on.

Ahead of the oath ceremony, Maharashtra CM-designate Devendra Fadnavis's wife Amruta said: "It is a beautiful day when Devendra ji has become MLA for the 6th time and for the third time he has got the CM post. We are happy about it but the sense of responsibility is greater."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister and BJP president JP Nadda arrived in Mumbai to attend the oath ceremony of the Mahayuti government. PM Narendra Modi is expected to arrive in the city soon.

Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde will take oath as deputy CM, senior party leader Uday Samant, reported NDTV. There has been ambiguity around the role of Shinde in the new government as Fadnavis returns as CM.

Chief Ministers of NDA-run states have arrived in Mumbai to attend the oath ceremony of the Mahayuti government. Devendra Fadnavis will be sworn-in by the Governor at 5:30 p.m.

Notable ones include Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and his deputy Samrat Choudhary, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy CM Pravati Parida.

The BJP plans to project power and strength of the NDA after big victories in Maharashtra and Haryana, following the underperformance in the Lok Sabha election six months ago.
