Mumbai's Elphinstone Bridge Closed From April 25: Check Alternate Routes And Diversions
The iconic bridge, built 125 years ago, links Parel and Prabhadevi. The existing bridge will be demolished and rebuilt using an open web girder design.

Mumbai’s Elphinstone Bridge will be shut for vehicles from Friday onwards. The British-era bridge is set for a major revamp. The closure is expected to last for two years, during which the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) plans to commence work on the construction of a new flyover.
The iconic bridge, built 125 years ago, links Parel and Prabhadevi. The existing bridge will be demolished and rebuilt using an open web girder design. It will feature 2+2 lanes and form the lower deck of a planned 4.5 km double-decker structure. The upper deck will carry the Worli–Sewri connector, which will pass above the new bridge.
The Mumbai Traffic Police have confirmed the development. The announcement comes after authorities earlier sought feedback from citizens over the new planned structure. To handle emergencies during the closure, two ambulances have also been arranged for the public. One will be stationed at Prabhadevi Station (West), and the other at Parel Station (East).
The new traffic orders will take effect from 9 PM on Friday, April 25.
The traffic police have also suggested alternative routes for commuters to ease congestion. The commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid any inconvenience.
