Heavy rains wreaked havoc across several states on Monday with Maharashtra being the worst-hit where seven people lost their lives, over 200 people were stranded and five reported missing prompting authorities to deploy the Army for rescue efforts.
Multiple landslides in Himachal Pradesh led to closure of nearly 400 roads.
In the cloudburst-hit village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, two more bodies were recovered from the debris taking the death toll in the August 14 disaster to 63, as a search operation continued for the fifth day despite intermittent rains.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said in post on X that, "the municipal machinery has made relentless efforts, and water accumulated in low-lying areas has been drained quickly."
"Traffic is running smoothly in areas such as Hindmata, Gandhi Market, King's Circle, Dadar Railway Station, Hindu Colony, Andheri Subway, Shivdi Railway Station, and Na. M. Joshi Marg," it added.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation announced a holiday for schools in Mumbai on August 19. The decision was taken in the view of red alert issued for Mumbai and suburbs tomorrow.
"The India Meteorological Department has issued a Red Alert warning (extremely heavy rainfall), for Mumbai City and Suburbs tomorrow i.e. Tuesday, 19th August 2025. In view of the same, District Disaster Management Authority (BMC), hereby declares a holiday for all Government, Private and Municipal schools and colleges in Mumbai (City and Suburbs)."

Several persons were seen carrying ailing kin on their backs to gain access to the Maa General Hospital, which is run by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
Pumps had to be deployed at the hospital to tackle waterlogging, a civic official said.

Police rescued six children and two staff members from a school bus stranded on a waterlogged street in Matunga area of Mumbai amid heavy rainfall on Monday, officials said.
The bus was transporting the children and staff after their school declared a half-day due to incessant rains lashing the city.
Following the rescue, the children were then taken to the Matunga police station for safety reasons, an official said.

Central Railway spokesperson Swapnil Nila said that tracks were submerged at Sion, Govandi, Mankhurd, Chembur and Kurla, while water had accumulated at some other places on the network due to rains.
"Suburban services on Harbour line were running at least 20-22 minutes late. The delay on the Main line is 20-25 minutes. Due to continuous rains, there is delay due to issue of visibility," Nila said.
CR said it had deployed personnel along its tracks in low-lying areas like Dadar, Parel, Byculla, Matunga, Wadala, Chembur, Mankhurd, Chunabhatti etc.

A total of nine flights had to perform a go-around and abort landing at Mumbai Airport due to incessant rains.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'orange alert' for Amravati and Gadchiroli and 'yellow alert' for Nagpur and some other districts in Maharashtra's Vidarbha region over the next two days.
The districts for which it has issued a 'yellow alert' also include Wardha, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal, Buldhana and Washim.
"The reason behind this active weather over Vidarbha is because the Monsoon Trough (one of the semi permanent features of South West Monsoon) is south of its normal position," IMD Regional Centre Official Dr. Praveen Kumar said.

Talking to PTI reported Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said that within 7-8 hours on Monday, Mumbai has received 177 millimetres of rain and more is expected throughout the day.
He urged everyone to take necessary precautions and also informed that instances of waterlogging have been reported at 14 places in the metropolis.
"Offices have been told to allow workers to leave for home at 4pm. After 6.30 pm, 3m to 4m tides are expected. The decision on closure of schools on Tuesday will be taken at an appropriate time. Citizens must not venture out without reason," he said.

Rain may intensify further over Tuesday and Wednesday in Mumbai and Sub-Urban area, Sykymet told NDTV Profit.

An MMRDA protection wall collapsed at Chembur's New Ashok Nagar, damaging seven huts, as per a NDTV report.
"No casualties have been reported. BMC and the Fire Brigade were present at the spot," the report added.
