Mahavir Jayanti will be observed on Thursday, April 10. The day marks the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir, the last Tirthankara, which means saviour and spiritual teacher, in Jainism.

On the day, some states, including Jharkhand, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, will observe a public holiday.

All public institutions such as government offices, post offices, schools, and banks will remain closed in these states.

It must be noted that Mahavir Jayanti bank holiday will be observed in these states: Gujarat, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand.

Customers and businesses are advised to check with their regional branches to plan their financial transactions accordingly. To be clear, digital websites of banks, ATMs, UPI payments, among others will still be active throughout the day.

List Of Remaining Bank Holidays In April 2025

  • April 10: Banks will be shut in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand on occasion of Mahavir Jayanti/Mahavir Janmakalyanak.

  • April 14: Ambedkar Jayanti and regional New Year celebrations such as Vishu, Bihu etc. Banks will be closed in Mizoram, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Himachal Pradesh.

  • April 15: Bengali New Year and Himachal Day. On this day, banks will remain closed for services in West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh,and Himachal Pradesh.

  • April 16: Bohag Bihu will be celebrated in Assam.

  • April 18: Good Friday holiday in most states to mark the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Banks will remain closed for services in states Rajasthan, Jammu, Tripura, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, and Srinagar, Gujarat Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, among others.

  • April 21: Garia Puja in Tripura will be celebrated with a public holiday in the state.

  • April 29: Bhagvan Shri Parshuram Jayanti will be observed in Himachal Pradesh.

  • April 30: Akshaya Tritiya holiday in Karnataka.

Additionally, banks will also observe public holiday on second and fourth Saturdays, as mandated by the RBI.
