Stock Market Highlights: Sensex, Nifty End Flat Ahead Of US Tariff Announcement
The NSE Nifty 50 ended 0.30 points flat at 25,461.30, while the BSE Sensex closed 9.61 points flat at 83.422.50.
India's benchmark indices ended flat on Monday, ahead of US President Donald Trump's tariff announcements expected later in the evening. Trump is expected to present his tariff letters to countries, ahead of their implementation on July 9.
Negotiations for a mini trade deal between India and US hit a wall as discussions stalled over agriculture and dairy access, where India is unwilling to yield ground. India has made it clear that sensitive sectors like dairy and certain agri products are off the table, a senior official said.
The NSE Nifty 50 ended 0.30 points flat at 25,461.30, while the BSE Sensex closed 9.61 points flat at 83.422.50. During the day, Nifty fell 0.21% to trade at 25,407.25 and Sensex declined 0.20% to 83,262.23.
Shares of Bharat Electronics Ltd., Tech Mahindra Ltd., Infosys Ltd. and Eternal Ltd. were the top losers in trade for the day.
Reliance Industries Ltd., Hindustan Unilever Ltd., Bharti Airtel Ltd. and ITC Ltd. cushioned the fall.
On NSE, nine out of 15 sectors ended in red, with Nifty Defence, Media and IT declining the most.
The broader market indices fell as well, with the BSE SmallCap down 0.33% and BSE MidCap declining 0.15%.
The market breadth was skewed in the favour of sellers as 789 stocks advanced, 1,379 declined and 23 remained unchanged on the BSE.
