Stock Market Highlights: Nifty, Sensex Close Lower After Trump Tariffs
Nine out of the 15 sectors on the NSE declined. The Nifty IT and Auto fell the most, while Pharma was the top performer.

The benchmark equity indices ended in the red on Thursday after US President Donald Trump imposed heavy tariffs on India and the world.
The NSE Nifty 50 ended 82.25 points or 0.35% lower at 23,250.10 and the BSE Sensex closed 322.08 points or 0.42% down at 76,295.36. During the day, the Nifty fell as much as 0.79% to 23,145.80, while the Sensex dropped 1.06% to 75,807.55
The decline came after India was slapped with a 27% reciprocal tariff and Trump's earlier announcement of auto sector facing a 25% tariff from the US.







Infosys Ltd., Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., HCL Technologies Ltd., Tata Motors Ltd. and Tech Mahindra Ltd. dragged the Nifty the most.
Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., Power Grid Corp., UltraTech Cement Ltd., NTPC Ltd. and Cipla Ltd. led the gains in the index.

Nine out of the 15 sectors on the National Stock Exchange advanced. The Nifty IT and Auto declined the most, while Pharma rose the most.

Nine out of the 21 sectoral indices on the BSE declined, with Focused IT, Information Technology and TECK falling the most.
The broader markets outperformed as the BSE MidCap surged 0.35% and SmallCap rose 0.76%

The market breadth was skewed in favour of the buyers as 1,524 stocks advanced and 576 declined on the NSE.
