India's stock benchmarks pared earlier gains to trade flat by afternoon session on Monday as advances in commodities and metals were offset by declines in IT, healthcare, and consumer stocks.
The Sensex traded little changed at 60,866.16 on the BSE, while the Nifty 50, too, traded flat at 18,119.65 on the NSE. Among the Nifty 50 constituents, 24 stocks gained while 26 fell.
Britannia Industries Ltd., Adani Enterprises Ltd., State Bank of India, Tata Steel Ltd. and Bharat Petroleum Corp. were the top gainers, while Asian Paints Ltd., Cipla Ltd., Titan Co., Sun Pharmaceutical Industries LTd. and Bajaj Finserv Ltd. were the top laggards on Nifty 50.
The broader indices outperformed their larger peers with the mid cap and the small cap gaining 0.49% and 0.54%, respectively.
Fourteen of 20 the sectoral measures complied by BSE Ltd. advanced with BSE commodities, utilities, and metal gaining the most.
The market breadth is skewed in favour of the bulls. About 1,967 stocks rose, 1,486 fell and 202 remained unchanged.
