Share prices of HDFC Life Insurance Co., Bharat Electronics Ltd., SBI Life Insurance Co., Shriram Finance Ltd., and Adani Enterprises Ltd. were the top gainers among the NSE Nifty 50 stocks.

Among the losers were shares of Trent Ltd., Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd., Tata Consumer Products Ltd., Nestle Ltd., and HCLTechnologies Ltd.

The Nifty and the BSE Sensex closed higher tracking positive cues from the global market and as investors await more corporate earnings. The Nifty 50 ended 318.74 points, or 0.42% higher at 23,311.80, and the Sensex closed 318.74 points, or 0.42% higher to 77,042.82.

Top Gainers 

HDFC Life Insurance Co. rose the most among Nifty stocks on Thursday. The stock hit Rs 663.6 intraday, its highest level since Dec. 2. The stock rose as most brokerages retained a positive view after assessing its performance during October–December.

This was followed by Bharat Electronics, which closed more than 3% higher. SBI Life was also a top gainer. The stock rose to hit Rs 1,545 intraday, its highest level since Nov. 19. Shriram Finance and Adani Enterprises were also among the stocks that gained the most and closed over 2% higher.

Top Losers

Trent Ltd. was the top loser, it slipped into losses again after one-day rise as Kotak Securities downgraded the stock. It had hit Rs 6,138, its lowest level since Aug. 9. Before Wednesday, it had fallen for eight consecutive sessions.

Dr. Reddy's Laboratories was the second-most laggard, as it continued its decline to a second session to close 2.6% down. Tata Consumer Products was in the red for a fourth session after rising for nine sessions.

HCLTechnologies and Nestle India Ltd. were also a part of top losers, but they closed less than 2% down.
