Auto Sales Live: Hero MotoCorp Sales Rise 20% In February

India's largest two-wheeler manufacturer saw its February sales rise 20 percent over the same month last year. It sold nearly 6.3 lakh units compared to 5.24 lakh in the same month last year.

Its performance was driven by “strong growth in scooters, in addition to the continued momentum across the range of its motorcycle brands,” Hero MotoCorp said in a press statement today.

This marks the ninth month in the financial year 2017-18 when the two-wheeler maker sold more than six lakh bikes.

TVS Motor Company Ltd.’s volumes rose in February, driven by its motorcycle sales.

Total sales increased 37 percent year-on-year to over 2.9 lakh units, the maker of Jupiter scooters said in an exchange filing.

Scooter sales rose 35.6 percent to 93,573 units, while motorcycle numbers advanced 92 percent to 1.13 lakh units. Three-wheeler sales rose 86.3 percent to 9,731 units.

The company exported 58,564 units in February, a rise of 53.2 percent over the same month last year.

Eicher Motors Ltd.’s sales climbed up, driven by a spike in demand for its Royal Enfield motorcycles with the engine capacity up to 350 cc.

Overall sales rose 25 percent to 73,077 units over the same month last year. The company sold 67,081 two-wheelers up to 350 cc, a jump of 23 percent over the year-ago month, according to its exchange filing. Sales of models with higher engine capacity rose 55 percent to 5,996 units year-on-year.

Exports rose 1 percent to 1,723 units as compared to last February.

Shares of Eicher Motors extended gains for the second day and rose as much as 2.1 percent to Rs 28,001.

Commercial vehicle segment sales:

• Total Trucks & Buses sales up 26.3 percent at 6,796 units.
• Total VE CV sales up 25.3 percent at 6,889 units.

Anand Mahindra-led Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M) sales rose 19 percent in February, led by its passenger and commercial vehicles sales, according to its stock exchange notification.

• Passenger vehicle sales rose 8 percent to 22,389 units.
• Utility vehicles sales rose 7 percent to 20977 units.
• Commercial vehicles sales rose 28 percent to 20,946 units.
• Three-wheeler sales rose 50 percent to 5,138 units.
• Total Domestic sales rose 20 epercent to 48,473 units.
• Exports rose 15 percent to 2,654 units.

Tractor sales highlights (February, YoY)

• Total tractor sales rose 36 percent to 20,483 units.
• Domestic tractor sales rose 39 percent to 19,280 units.
• Tractor exports rose 3 percent to 1,203 units.

Tata Motors sales rose in February driven by its commercial vehicles volumes.

The company sold 58,993 units, a rise of 38 percent from the corresponding period a year ago, according to its regulatory filing on BSE.

February sales highlights (YoY):

• Domestic commercial vehicles sales rose 36 percent to 41,222 units.
• Passenger vehicles sales rose 45 percent to 17,771 units.
• Exports declined 3 percent to 4,768 units.

Shares of Tata Motors rose as much as 1.7 percent to Rs 376.30 apiece.

Ford India sold 12,965 units in February, a marginal decline of 0.25 percent form the corresponding period, a year ago, according to Bloomberg report.

The Chennai-based truck and bus maker sold 18,181 vehicles last month, 29 percent higher than the corresponding month in the previous year, according to its stock exchange notification.

The company’s medium and heavy commercial vehicles sales rose 21 percent to 13,726 units, while its light commercial vehicle sales rose 63 percent to 4,455 units.

Shares of Ashok Leyland extended gains for the fifth trading session and rose as much as 1.8 percent to Rs 143,80 apiece.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.’s sales rise for the thirteenth straight month, driven by its compact vehicles demand.

The country’s largest carmaker sold 1.49 lakh units last month, an increase of 15 percent from the corresponding month in 2017, according to its stock exchange notification (more details here.)

Tractor maker Escorts Ltd.’s sales rise in February, aided by demand in local market.

The company sold 6,462 tractors last month, an increase of 52 percent from the corresponding month previous year, according to its stock exchange notification.

February sales highlights:

• Domestic sales rose 53.4 percent to 6,295 units.
• Exports rose 16.8 percent to 167 units.

Bajaj Auto Ltd.’s sales rose for the seventh straight month in February, driven by healthy growth in commercial vehicles segment.

The two- and three-wheeler maker sold 3.57 lakh units last month, an increase of 31 percent from the year-ago period, the Pune-based company said today. (More details here.)
