'Laid Off Twice In Three Months': Reddit User Says Can't Afford To Sit At Home; Netizens Quip, 'There's No Job Security'

A user on the social media platform Reddit shared on Monday that they were laid off twice in three months, expressing their fatigue with the job market and drawing attention to the lack of job security they experienced as they navigated it.

The user said that they were laid off from their tech job for nearly two years and then let go from a warehouse job soon after due to lack of work to give employees.

Others users acknowledged the precarity of the job market while replying to their post in the subreddit r/Layoffs. The advice given to the original poster ranged from switching to an industry less vulnerable to market fluctuations, to taking up stock trading and getting into self employment.

"I was laid off in January from a tech company after working there for 23 months then joined a warehouse because I can't afford to sit at home and now they got rid of half of their staff as well, including me," the user wrote.

"Honestly, I am so tired of this, I don't even want to work for anyone unless I get job security," they added.

A user stated that a career in law enforcement seems to be the only employment role that has job security, but acknowledged the inherent risks in the course of doing such a job. They also stated that government jobs have job security but added that these jobs are "changing".

"There's not such thing as job security anymore unless you have a government job, and those are changing. The only career I know that are always hiring and there's some security is being a police officer... but who the hell wants to risk their life... so idk what to tell you, it's ruff out here for everyone," the user said.

Another user recommended learning another trade or getting into investing. "Learn another trade or learn to invest. I quit my job because of the toxic environment and know stock trading," they said.

Many users extended thoughts and prayers to the commenter with some recommending a switch to an industry which is not as subject to market fluctuations as tech.

"Maybe consider an industry less prone to market fluctuations? For instance- many people pick hospitals since people get sick all the time? Not sure what kind of work you do but many similar jobs are needed in every kind of company? Good luck," another user wrote.
