The documentary NAZA, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival earlier this month, is set for a global theatrical release before becoming available to stream for free on The Guardian's website.

NAZA Announces Global Theatrical Release

The documentary NAZA, directed by Israeli filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, will be released theatrically across 55 territories before becoming available to stream for free on The Guardian's website. The film won the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival. According to TheWrap, the documentary features interviews with 24 anonymous IDF sources and examines the deaths of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

Produced by The Guardian and mk2 Films, the documentary draws on investigative journalism carried out over the past three years. NAZA will have its North American premiere at the New York Film Festival before opening at New York's IFC Centre. It will then expand to Los Angeles and other US cities from October 9.

The film will be released in countries including the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Canada, Hong Kong, Brazil, Turkey, Thailand, France, Spain, Germany, Central America and the Middle East. After its theatrical run, NAZA will be available to stream for free on The Guardian's website.

NAZA Faces Controversy Over Gaza Claims

The documentary has faced criticism in Israel following its Venice premiere. According to TheWrap, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called for the Israeli citizenship of Abraham and Szor to be revoked after the film's Venice win. The filmmakers have previously worked on the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land.

The filmmakers said they made NAZA to examine the systems behind the deaths of Palestinian civilians and to use their position as Israeli filmmakers and journalists to investigate the issue.

Guardian investigations correspondent and producer Harry Davies said the film is based on journalism published over the past three years while also functioning as a cinematic work. The Guardian has said it has approached distributors and cinemas in Israel and is exploring ways to screen the documentary in the occupied Palestinian territories.
