Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday assured that the government is extending all possible support to Indian citizens in the Gulf region amid the ongoing West Asia crisis, while accusing the Congress of playing politics over the situation.

Addressing a rally in Kochi, Modi said India today does not abandon its citizens during global emergencies and is actively working to ensure assistance reaches Indians in the region.

“India of today does not leave its citizens stranded elsewhere; we are working to ensure all help is provided to Indians in West Asia,” the prime minister said.

He also expressed gratitude to Gulf nations for looking after the large Indian diaspora working there.

“Gulf countries are giving utmost care to Indians working there, and I am grateful to them for that,” Modi said in Kochi.

The prime minister criticised the Congress for its remarks on the crisis, accusing the opposition party of behaving irresponsibly during a sensitive geopolitical situation.

“Congress is inciting and being irresponsible in war,” Modi alleged.

"While BJP and NDA work to make India self reliant, Congress and Left parties only make fun of the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan'; even today in the time of war, the Congress-Left ecosystem is creating panic in the country," PM Modi said.

Modi also used the occasion to emphasise the importance of economic self-reliance, saying the energy disruptions triggered by the Middle East tensions highlight the need for India to strengthen its “Atmanirbhar” push.

“The Middle East crisis and the resulting energy shortages show how important it is for a nation to be self-reliant,” he said.

The Centre, he added, is closely monitoring developments in West Asia and coordinating efforts to ensure the safety and welfare of Indian nationals in the region.
