The UCSC Silicon Valley has announed the international student merit scholarship for students aspiring to enroll in certificate programmes at the university's Silicon Valley campus. The one-time financial grant of $1,000 (approximately Rs 90,500) is meant to support international students, including those from India.
The scholarship will be credited as a deduction to the International Student Fee during the student's initial quarter of enrolment. It is open to new, full-time F-1 international students who have been accepted into qualifying UCSC Silicon Valley certificate programmes.
Aimed at international graduates and early-career professionals, UCSC Silicon Valley Extension programmes merge academic education with hands-on experience. The coursework includes project-oriented assignments that reflect contemporary industry standards and emphasise practical abilities related to technology, business, and sectors driven by innovation in the US and global markets.
Indian students' interest in short-term, professionally focused US programmes is constantly growing, according to PK Agarwal, dean of UC Santa Cruz Silicon Valley.
"Studying in Silicon Valley provides insight into how technology-driven industries operate in practice. At UCSC Silicon Valley, our extension programmes are built around applied learning models and focus on developing skills relevant to today's professional environments. The International Student Merit Scholarship is intended to support international students as they begin their academic journey in the US," he added.
Application Deadline
Application deadlines are staggered across four admission intakes. The fall intake has a deadline of June 15, while candidates aiming for the winter term must submit their applications by Oct. 15. For students seeking admission in the spring term, the last date to apply is Jan. 15, and for the summer term, applications must be completed by April 1.
Timelines for visa processing should be taken into account by students while preparing their applications. Scholarship winners must continue to be enrolled full-time (12 units per quarter), maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0, have an active F-1 visa, and fulfill all orientation and academic requirements.
More information about eligibility, application requirements, and deadlines is on the official UC Santa Cruz website.
