New Jersey Agency Suspends Clampdown on Microbrewery Events

(Bloomberg) -- New Jersey microbreweries scored a swift victory.

The state division of Alcoholic Beverage Control on Tuesday said it is rolling back regulations that would have curbed trivia nights, live performances, televised sports broadcasts and other entertainment at the venues.

That step came after bipartisan lawmakers, sticking up for the state's 88 craft-beer brewers, said they would sponsor legislation to overturn the new rules, which were issued last week. The state beverage agency, citing distinctions among licensing for bars, restaurants and breweries, had sought to limit special events to just 25 annually.

“The suspension will provide ABC with the opportunity to engage in further conversations with stakeholders, including craft breweries and other alcoholic beverage license holders, about the impact of the special ruling,” the division said in a statement.
