The Mumbai metro project inauguration scheduled for April 3 has been postponed as the leaders facilitating the event are busy with upcoming campaigns in other states, The Times of India reported. The first phase of Metro Line 9 between Kashigaon and Dahisar, along with the Phase I opening of Metro Line 2B, are the lined-up terminals waiting for the green flag to serve commuters.
Other launches, including the bhoomipujan of the Rs 1,016-crore Golden Nest flyover pod taxi project in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and tunnel-boring machines (TBMs) for the 11.8-km Thane-Borivli tunnel, have been cancelled, these projects are expected to reduce travel time to approximately 15 minutes.

New dates for the programs are expected to be announced soon, with the events likely moved to April 5 or 6, pending final approval from state leaders, according to TOI. The initial phase features four stations, Dahisar (East), Pandurang Wadi, Miragaon, and Kashigaon, and is set to vastly improve east-west connectivity for residents of Mira-Bhayandar.
The event was also set to mark the opening of Mumbai Metro Line 2B's first phase, a vital route designed to reduce traffic in the western suburbs and offer a much-needed alternative to congested roads.
A 4.5-km stretch of Metro Line 9 is ready for passengers between Dahisar and Kashigaon, having completed trials and key safety clearances. Via Metro Line 7, travellers can easily access uninterrupted routes from Mira Road through Gundavli.
Sources indicate that the delay was caused by senior leaders' busy schedules, as they were tied up in political meetings across Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, making them unavailable for the Mumbai inaugurations.

Authorities confirmed that all projects are fully ready and the postponement is purely logistical. Once operational, these metro lines and infrastructure projects are expected to significantly reduce travel time.
