(Bloomberg) -- Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign on Saturday ratcheted up the pressure on FBI Director James Comey to provide more details of the renewed investigation into the former secretary of state's use of private e-mail, a development that's rocked the race for the White House.
“Twenty four hours after that letter was sent we have no explanation why,” John Podesta, Clinton's campaign chairman, said on a press call held to discuss Comey's move to tell lawmakers of the revived inquiry. “No on can separate what is true or is not because Comey has not been forthcoming with the facts.”
In his letter to Congress on Friday, Comey said he couldn't say how long the review of a newly discovered tranche of e-mails would take -- raising the possibility that Clinton could go into Election Day on Nov. 8 with the fresh probe hanging over her campaign.
It's “entirely possible” that all the e-mails, found on a computer shared by Clinton aide Huma Abedin and her estranged husband, former Representative Anthony Weiner, are duplicates, Podesta said. “It's hard to see how this amounts to anything.”
Late Friday Clinton told reporters that “the American people deserve to get full and complete facts” on the FBI's actions. Early voting is under way in many states ahead of the Nov. 8 election.
