The deadlines to file returns for the sale and purchase of goods and services under GST have been extended, the Central Board of Excise and Customs tweeted.
For July, the deadline to file GSTR-1 has been extended by five days to September 10, for GSTR-2 by 15 days to September 25 and for GSTR-3 by again 15 days to September 30. For August, the last date for all the returns has been extended by 15 days each to October 5 for GSTR-1, October 10 for GSTR-2 and October 15 for GSTR-3.

The proposal to extend the last date was approved by the GST Implementation Committee which comprises officials from both state and central governments. A suitable notification will be issued shortly, the CBEC tweeted.
The government wants to give taxpayers more time to complete registration process under the Goods and Services Tax so that more returns are filed, a senior official told BloombergQuint requesting anonymity.
As on August 29, over 64 percent of taxpayers had filed returns through GSTR-3B returns. Of the total 72.33 lakh taxpayers, 58.53 lakh have completely migrated to the GSTN and 13.8 lakh are yet to complete procedural formalities, the finance ministry had said while disclosing GST collections for July.
