Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to chair the 55th GST Council meeting in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer on Saturday. The meeting will focus on key discussions related to goods and services tax.

The panel is expected to deliberate on taxability issues concerning food delivery services and health insurance, as well as potential changes to GST slabs and rate rationalisation.

The finance ministers of all states and union territories are expected to attend the meeting.

GST Council Meeting: Date And Time

The meeting will be held on Saturday, Dec. 21 in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to address the media at around 6 pm following the conclusion of the meeting.

Where To Watch The Post-Meeting Press Conference?

Sitharaman's press conference will follow the conclusion of the GST Council meeting. One can watch the press conference of the finance minister live on the NDTV Profit's YouTube Channel or tune in to the Live TV section on the NDTV Profit website.

Agenda And Expectations

The GST Council is expected to discuss reducing the GST rates on life and health insurance premiums. The council may also the tax rates on high-end wristwatches, shoes and apparel. A separate 35% tax slab for sin goods like aerated beverages, cigarettes, tobacco and related products may also be proposed during the meeting. 

Besides, the council may deliberate on bringing aviation turbine fuel under the ambit of GST, as per reports.

Additionally, the council is expected to decide on the GST rates levied on food delivery platforms like Swiggy and Zomato.
