These Eight U.S. States Carry a Trade Surplus With China: Chart

(Bloomberg) -- Donald Trump has made a lot of the U.S.'s $347 billion trade deficit with China, so it's no wonder it will likely take center stage when he hosts President Xi Jinping later this week in Mar-a-Lago, Florida. While five states -- California, Texas, Illinois, Tennessee and New York -- account for $220 billion of the total trade deficit, these eight states above are running large surpluses, according to Bloomberg Intelligence's Michael McDonough and Tom Orlik. Last year, Louisiana registered the largest surplus at almost $7 billion, mostly thanks to agricultural products, with Washington's aerospace industry accounting for a bulk of its exports.
