How many smartphones do you think were produced at one of the world's largest smartphone factories in the time you read this sentence? Three! Yes, three, high-tech, cutting-edge smartphones packed with thousands of components and tens of thousands of lines of code were produced at OPPO India's factory in Greater Noida in the ten seconds or so you took to read the sentence.

And that incredible statistic, among others, is why National Geographic India is featuring smartphone maker OPPO India's mega-manufacturing Greater Noida facility in the channel's world-famous SUPERFACTORIES series. ‘SUPERFACTORIES: OPPO' premiered on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at 7.00 pm on National Geographic Channel India and is also streaming on OTT platform Hotstar. It is an incredible endorsement of OPPO's manufacturing and technological prowess, because being featured on SUPERFACTORIES puts you in a select club of the world's most respected brands--the SUPERFACTORIES show has featured factories that produce brands like Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, Corvette, Apache Helicopters, Caterpillar, Tetrapak and the precision operations of logistics giants like UPS.

‘SUPERFACTORIES: OPPO' is a show that is a must-watch for every Indian as it is a well-articulated story of manufacturing prowess that churns out the powerful handheld computers, we call smartphones, and is also a powerful endorsement of what is possible in India. The show emphatically proves that the most complex technology can be manufactured in India at similar or superior speed and quality levels than anywhere else and tells a story of how brilliant technology and innovation can be developed in India, for the world. ‘SUPERFACTORIES: OPPO' captures the passion that drives a team of thousands of OPPO team members in India committed towards a common goal of producing cutting-edge smartphones with zero defects and at incredible production speeds.

Over 10000 employees work at OPPO's smartphone superfactory spread over 110 acres and giant hangar-like buildings in Greater Noida. The superfactory is part of the company's Rs 2200 crore investment in India and stands at the forefront of the Indian government's ‘Make in India' initiative which was launched in 2014 to encourage global giants to manufacture in India. Thanks to this superfactory, OPPO has taken 'Make in India' to 'Make in India for the world,' producing millions of smartphones not just for India, but also for global markets.

Each aspect of the astonishing manufacturing process that makes a high-tech smartphone an object of desire is amazingly documented in ‘SUPERFACTORIES: OPPO.' While we will not reveal any spoilers because the story is a truly compelling watch, let's just say it is like a daily triathlon of endurance to manufacture hundreds of thousands of smartphones each day by getting the SMT, assembly and warehouses and logistics functions in perfect sync. It is all the more interesting because this is not like any superfactory you have ever seen. We have traditionally known of super factories that make cars, airplanes and so on, but this a factory driven by digital and is all set for an even more digitally enhanced future that is on the way with the 5G revolution that is coming to India soon.
