Sun TV Network Ltd. reported a 19 percent increase in net profit for the April to June quarter of financial year 2016-17, beating street estimates.

Net profit for the Tamil television station rose to Rs 233.1 crore in the first quarter, from Rs 196 crore in the same quarter last year, according to the company's filing on the Bombay Stock Exchange. Net profit was expected come in at Rs 229 crore accoring to consensus estimates tracked by Bloomberg.

Revenue increased 10.4 percent to Rs 760.8 crore from Rs 689 crore on a year-on-year basis, beating Bloomberg consensus estimate of Rs 745 crore. Other income stood at Rs 21.6 crore, the filing added.

Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation increased 7.2 percent to Rs 436.4 crore over the year. EBITDA margin, however, fell to 57.4 percent in the quarter from 59 percent in the same quarter last year.
