The Reserve Bank of India on Sunday said that it will soon issue Rs 20 and Rs 50 currency notes in the Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005, with inset letter 'L' in both the number panels, bearing signature of Urjit Patel.
The year of printing '2016' printed on the reverse of the banknote, the RBI said in two separate media statements.
All Rs 50 and Rs 20 bank notes that have been issued in the past will continue to be legal tender.
