Mazda-Toyota’s $1.6 Billion Alabama Plant May Be Delayed

(Bloomberg) -- Mazda may delay construction of its Alabama plant as it struggles to bring in equipment and workers due to the coronavirus, senior managing executive officer Akira Koga says at an earnings briefing.

  • Mazda and Toyota said in 2018 they'd jointly build the $1.6b facility in Huntsville
  • Koga didn't specify how long work may be delayed
  • Mazda is working with banks to secure funding and isn't worried about financing for now, says Tesuya Fujimoto, managing executive officer
  • Nikkei reported last weekend that Mazda is seeking 300b yen in loans from Japanese banks and other institutions
