The country's oldest private sector airline, Jet Airways Ltd., aims to become the first Indian player to offer wireless connectivity (WiFi) on all domestic routes from March, 2017. The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had finally cleared a proposal allowing domestic airlines to offer wifi connectivity three months ago.

Jet Airways is also looking to capitalise on its 19 code-share partners, including Etihad Airways. The airline will add six new routes and increase its frequency on four existing ones to boost network.

It is important that we are network focused and not point to point carriers as some of our competitors would be.
Guarang Shetty, Wholetime Director, Jet Airways

The new routes will connect Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram and Tiruchirappalli to the Middle East, while two new routes from Bengaluru, connecting Colombo and Sinagapore has also been added. The frequency of flights from Mumbai to Kathmandu, Delhi to Kathmandu, Delhi to Kolkata, and Delhi to Abu Dhabi has also been increased.

Speaking about the company's partnership with Gulf carrier Etihad Airways, Shetty said it together commanded a 17.7 percent global and domestic market share in the first nine months of 2016.
