'Baseless Allegations': KMF Issues Statement After Social Media Posts Claim Nandini Unsafe For Consumption

The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has warned social media users against spreading what it described as “baseless and misleading” claims regarding the quality of Nandini products on social media platforms.

The federation issued a public notice addressing claims circulating on Instagram and other social media platforms, which allege that certain Nandini products are unsafe for consumption.

This is, “causing unnecessary panic and confusion among our Crores of consumers who have grown up with Nandini Brand right from their childhood,” the KMF said.
In the notice, KMF maintained that it follows strictly approved methods framed by statutory bodies, including the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

The federation urged consumers not to be misled by the false allegations.

“KMF strongly refutes baseless, misleading, and defamatory statements and is forced to initiate legal actions on such miscreants,” the statement read.

Nandini is the dairy brand of the Karnataka Milk Federation and is one of the most recognised dairy brands in India. The brand belongs to the Karnataka Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation Limited (KMF), the second-largest dairy cooperative in the country. The dairy's milk is served in most of the South Indian states and is widely popular. In addition the KMF also exports its premium Nandini products to foreign nations.

According to Deccan Herald, due to increasing international demand, KMF, through a franchisee model, established “Cafe Moo” in Saudi Arabia and began exporting Nandini ghee, cheese, ice cream, butter and other products in 2023. In November 2025, KMF further expanded exports of Nandini ghee to Australia, Saudi Arabia, and the United States. The federation already exports a large number of dairy products to countries including Dubai, Qatar, Maldives, and Singapore.

Previously, in 2015, a test on Nandini Full Cream Milk reportedly found the pesticide ‘Cypermethrin' at levels 40 percent higher than the permissible limit, The Hindustan Times reported.

The finding was part of tests conducted on five milk brands in Bengaluru and Chennai by a Bengaluru-based food analysis startup, WiseTummy.com, with samples tested at a government-accredited laboratory in Chennai.
