Rishad Premji, the 38-year-old son of Wipro's billionaire founder Azim Premji, has been elevated to the board of the company with effect from May 1. Rishad, the elder son of Azim Premji, currently serves as the chief strategy officer of Wipro.
"Rishad Premji joined Wipro in 2007 and has played a critical role in defining the company's strategy and driving its mergers and acquisitions function," Wipro said in a statement on Tuesday.
Wipro's nine-member board is headed by Azim Premji, India's third richest man with a fortune of $16.4 billion, according to Forbes.
Rishad's elevation to Wipro's board comes eight years after he joined the company. He has previously worked with global consultancy Bain & Co. as well as GE Capital in the US.
"It is an absolute privilege and honor to be invited to the Board of Wipro, a company built over the past 70 years on the bedrock of uncompromising integrity and the hard work of thousands of Wiproites." Rishad Premji said.
Rishad Premji did his BA in Economics from Wesleyan University and has an MBA from Harvard Business School.
In 2014, he was recognized as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum for his outstanding leadership, professional accomplishments, and commitment to society.
