Alphabet Picks Former Cable Executive to Lead Google Fiber Unit

Google parent Alphabet Inc. named Dinesh Jain the new chief for its turbulent high-speed internet business.

(Bloomberg) -- Google parent Alphabet Inc. named Dinesh Jain, the former chief operating officer of Time Warner Cable, the new chief for its turbulent high-speed internet business.

Jain is the third chief executive officer of Alphabet's Access unit, which includes its Google Fiber service, in under two years. The most recent leader, Gregory McCray, stepped down after a five-month stint in July. Craig Barratt, the prior chief, left in October 2016, when Alphabet said it was drastically culling back the Google Fiber service.

Once a favored destination of Alphabet expenses, the home internet and television division lost considerable clout and financing in the last two years to Google's cloud-computing effort and other projects. In a blog post on Tuesday, Alphabet said Jain will oversee employees in the “nearly 20 markets” where Google Fiber is active.
