US Vice President JD Vance has departed for Pakistan to lead Washington's delegation in crucial peace talks with Iran, as efforts intensify to stabilise a fragile ceasefire in West Asia.
“We won't be receptive if Iran tries to play us,” Vance said ahead of departure, underscoring the firm stance adopted under directives from US President Donald Trump.
He further stated that President Donald Trump has laid out clear guidelines for the negotiations, while also warning Tehran against trying to “play” the United States.

A US Air Force transport aircraft marked “Charleston” was seen approaching Nur Khan Airbase in Pakistan on Friday, according to NDTV, signalling the arrival of American officials for the negotiations.
Talks between Washington and Tehran remain clouded by uncertainty, with no official confirmation on the arrival timelines of both delegations. The two sides have also traded accusations over alleged violations of the recently agreed ceasefire.
Pakistan's capital Islamabad is on high alert as it prepares to host the high-stakes dialogue.
Official sources indicate the discussions will cover sensitive issues, including Iran's nuclear programme and ensuring the free flow of trade through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
Security has been significantly tightened across the city. According to media reports, the Serena Hotel, located within the high-security Red Zone near the foreign ministry, has been designated as the venue, with guests asked to vacate the premises. Authorities have also declared a two-day public holiday, while roads leading to key government buildings have been sealed and heavily guarded.
Al Jazeera reported that the main avenues into the Red Zone have been blocked, with a visible military presence and multiple checkpoints across Islamabad.

Meanwhile, Iran's delegation, expected to include Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, is anticipated to arrive shortly, though details remain fluid after earlier updates were withdrawn.
The US delegation is also expected to include senior officials Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, both of whom were involved in earlier rounds of negotiations with Iran.
With tensions still simmering after weeks of conflict, all eyes are now on Islamabad as the talks aim to prevent further escalation and revive diplomatic engagement.
