A recall of around 55,000 pounds of frozen blueberries has been issued by the FDA amid risk of life-threatening listeria contamination.
The US Food and Drug Administration said that the Oregon Potato Company — a family-owned business in Salem, has flagged 55,689 pounds of individually quick-frozen blueberries.
The FDA said that the product was packaged in a polyethylene bag within a corrugated 30lbs and was not sold to consumers in retail stores.
Distributed Areas
The blueberries were distributed in Michigan, Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin and Canada.

What Is Listeria?
According to the FDA, listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes) is a type of disease-causing bacteria that can be found in many places, including soil, water, sewage, rotting vegetation, and animals.
"It can survive and grow even under refrigeration. L. monocytogenes can thrive in unsanitary food production conditions, leading to contamination of the food. When people eat food contaminated with L. monocytogenes, they may develop a disease called listeriosis."
What does recall mean?
According to the FDA, a recall means a firm's removal or correction of a marketed product that the FDA considers to be in violation of the laws it administers and against which the agency would initiate legal action, e.g., a seizure. Recall does not include a market withdrawal or a stock recovery.
