Iran on Wednesday made it clear that it will end the ongoin war only on its own timeline and conditions, dismissing a US-backed proposal as inadequate and disconnected from ground realities.

The Trump administration had offered a 15-point ceasefire plan to Iran. The plan was reportedly submitted to Iran by intermediaries from Pakistan, who have offered to host renewed negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

A senior political-security official told Press TV today that these conditions are separate from the demands Iran presented to the other side during the second round of negotiations in Geneva.

"Iran has informed all mediators acting in good faith that a ceasefire will only take place once its conditions are accepted; until then, no negotiations will be conducted. We will continue to defend ourselves until these conditions are fulfilled. Iran will end the war when it decides to do so-not when Trump intends it to end."

Tehran has laid down five key conditions for any ceasefire. These include a complete halt to aggression and targeted killings.

Iran has also called for a comprehensive end to hostilities across all fronts, including allied resistance groups in the region, while insisting that its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz be formally recognised as a legal right and a guarantee of compliance by the opposing side.

Five Key Conditions for Ending the War:

  • The enemy's aggression and acts of assassination come to an end.
  • Objective conditions are established to ensure that the war will not recur.
  • The payment of damages and war reparations is guaranteed and clearly determined.
  • The end of the war is implemented across all fronts and for all resistance groups involved in this conflict throughout the region.
  • Iran's exercise of sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz is its natural and legal right, and guarantees for the implementation of the other party's commitments must be recognized.

The official said Tehran has rejected the US proposal conveyed through regional intermediaries, asserting that no negotiations will take place unless all its conditions are accepted.

“Iran will end the war when it decides to do so and when its own conditions are met,” the official said, underlining the country's resolve to continue military operations until then.

The remarks also criticised Washington's diplomatic outreach, describing recent proposals as “excessive” and inconsistent with battlefield developments. The official drew parallels with earlier rounds of talks in 2025, alleging that previous negotiations were used as a cover for subsequent military action.

Tehran views the latest overture as an attempt to escalate tensions rather than resolve them, despite efforts by intermediaries to revive dialogue. The conditions, the official added, build on demands presented during earlier negotiations in Geneva, held shortly before fresh US and Israeli strikes began on February 28.
