After much speculation, HBO has finally introduced the iconic trio – Harry, Hermione, and Ron – for its upcoming Harry Potter series.
The newcomers for the HBO Original Series have been selected after "tens of thousands of children" gave audition after the netowrk issued its open casting call last year.
Among the new faces roped in are Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The iconic characters from the popular series were earlier portrayed by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.
Who is Dominic McLaughlin?
The iconic role of Harry Potter, earlier made famous by Daniel Radcliffe for the JK Rowling series, will next be essayed by Scottish child actor Dominic McLaughlin for the HBO version.
Described as a "screen newcomer," McLaughlin has been signed on after participating in the open casting call from the makers last year. This was basically for actors in the age groups between the 9 and 11 years.
However, The Mirror reported that the television adaptation of the JK Rowling novels is not the only upcoming project that features McLaughlin.
The child actor has already worked on upcoming Sky Original film Grow. This also features Nick Frost, who has been roped in to star as Rubeus Hagrid in the HBO series.
Set in a world of pumpkin rivalry, the film is slated for release later this year. It has been touted as a comedy film, which is all about "family, growth and nurturing".
The story focuses on a "cutthroat giant-pumpkin-growing contest," while an entire town gets to compete in this for a cash prize. It will feature Golda Rosheuvel and Priya-Rose Brookwell in the lead.
According to IMDb, Nick essays the role of an eco-loving pumpkin pundit, named Arlo, while Dominic McLaughlin will appear as Oliver Gregory.
Dominic McLaughlin In BBC show
Apart from Grow and the HBO's Harry Potter series, the child actor also features in the forthcoming series Gifted by BBC. This is a screen adaptation of Marilyn Kaye's novels of the same name.
McLaughlin will appear as Martin in the show, which will be set in Edinburgh.
Gifted will feature a diverse group of young Scottish teens, who go on to discover that all of them have their own unique superpowers, which their abilities ranging from telekinesis and invisibility to mind reading.
It is expected to premiere on BBC iPlayer by 2025 end.
