The T20 World Cup and Valentine's Week were among the most-searched topics in India over the past seven days, Google Trends has revealed. Actor Rajpal Yadav's surrender this month in a long-running debt case and elections in Bangladesh after Sheikh Hasina's ouster last year were also the topics that dominated search engines.
The ongoing T20 World Cup alone registered over five million hits, with matches between India-Namibia and Pakistan-USA recording similar figures over the past week.
In terms of political news, the election results in Bangladesh also hit over 200K searches. Here are some of the top searches on Google Trends this week.
T20 World Cup 2026
The tournament has kept cricket lovers on their toes with nail-biting games. Be it South Africa and Afghanistan's match going into a thrilling double Super Over after a tie, Zimbabwe's win over Australia or Ishan Kishan's record-breaking half-century against Namibia, the T20 World Cup has had its fair share of entertainment moments in the first stage itself.
The sporting extravaganza will likely remain at the top of the search results over the weekend as well, with India and Pakistan's match on the horizon. The two Asian giants are set to face each other in Colombo on Sunday.
2026 Winter Olympics Men's Figure Skating
The ongoing Winter Olympics in Italy have generated a lot of buzz on social media. Google also shared a doodle of figure skating on Feb. 13. USA's Ilia Malinin is looking to make history in the event by not only landing the first quad Axel in Olympic competition, but also winning gold in men's singles. The 21-year-old skating superstar has a 12-event international winning streak that dates back to late 2023.

Valentine's Week
On a lighter note, Valentine's Week was among the top searches, with many people looking up which day of the romance-filled week it was. Feb. 7 marks the start of the week with Rose Day. The celebrations culminate with Valentine's Day on Feb. 14. The day is related to celebrating love and affection between friends, romantic partners and loved ones.

Rajpal Yadav's Case
Rajpal Yadav and Murali Projects Pvt. Ltd's long-running financial dispute made headlines again after the actor surrendered at Tihar Jail following the Delhi High Court's rejection of his plea for more time to repay a Rs 9 crore loan. Yadav had borrowed Rs 5 crore in 2010 to finance his debut directorial, Ata Pata Laapata, which later flopped at the box office.
The loan amount ballooned to Rs 9 crore after bounced cheques and added penalties. Yadav has been sentenced to six months and is awaiting a bail hearing.
Bangladesh Elections 2026
On Feb. 12, Bangladesh voted for the first time since Sheikh Hasina was removed from power by student protestors in 2024. This was the country's first election in decades without a female leader in the spotlight.
Tarique Rahman's Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) said that it won a majority in the polls and would form the next government. While the BNP and its allies won 211 of the 299 seats, their rivals, the Jamaat-e-Islami alliance, captured 70 seats, as per provisional results by the Jamuna TV broadcaster.
