A Bengaluru-based woman's candid breakdown of her monthly “Gen Z expenses” has sparked a major debate on social media, highlighting shifting lifestyle priorities among young adults as they emphasise self-care, mental health, and personal indulgences over traditional savings.
In the video shared on Instagram, the 22-year-old has mentioned in detail her monthly expenses, wherein she allocates a significant portion of her income to therapy sessions as well as to flowers, brunches, and grooming. Her lifestyle choices highlight a major generational shift toward valuing experiences and emotional well-being.

Shradha Saini stated in the clip that she purchases flowers for herself about two to three times a month, costing her about Rs 2,000.
Highlighting how mental health is of major importance to her, the woman said that she undergoes therapy and considers it essential. This incurs a monthly cost of roughly Rs 10,000.
Saini said she consciously schedules time for herself on a regular basis as part of her routine. Also, she looks forward to going out for brunch every Sunday, which requires her to spend Rs 2,000 a month. Also, her weekends are primarily dedicated to self-care.
Incorporating grooming and relaxation into her day-to-day lifestyle, Saini said she has dedicated massage and pedicure sessions over the weekends, costing her about Rs 5,000 on a monthly basis. Additionally, she also spends another Rs 3,000 for nail appointments.
Moreover, she has allocated a separate budget of Rs 1,000 for spending on "aesthetic items" to uplift her mood. She even puts about Rs 2,000 in tools related to self-reflection, including guided journals, vision boards and gratitude planners.
Saini believes that she considers these expenditures as "Gen Z spending".
While sharing the post on Instagram, she wrote, "What's that one Gen Z expense that millennials will never understand?"
Soon after, her post went viral on the social media platform and garnered more than a million views.
In the comments section, people offered diverse opinions regarding personal spending and self-care, besides talking about the evolving financial behaviours across different age groups.
