Union minister Ashiwini Vaishnaw said on Tuesday that the reason for Nvidia Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang not attending the India AI Impact Summit, was due to "something unavoidable" that required Huang's attention and stated that the AI chipmaker had sent a senior executive to attend in his stead.
"This is a personal choice, I would not like to comment on it. Jensen Huang reached out to us and said that because of something really unavoidable, he was very keen to work here but he has deputed his very senior executive to join us," Vaishnaw said in a press conference.
He also said that the firm is making large investments in AI in India and is working with Indian companies. "Nvidia is working with some Indian companies, for some very large investments in AI in India," he added.
According to Vaishnaw, Nvidia is also working with software companies to develop many use cases for safety plays and control plays, for which they are working with many Indian startups to "further augment the sovereign AI systems" in the country.
Safety plays are fail-safe mechanisms that safeguard a software system by reverting it to a 'safe state' when it is compromised, while control plays involve the real-time monitoring and management of code to prevent conflicts when multiple developers are working at once.
"All the top executives are already here and they're doing about 20 sessions. So, absolutely the commitment from all global AI leaders is present," Vaishnaw stated.
The summit began on Feb. 16 and will conclude on Feb. 20 with Day 2. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and Google DeepMind chief Demis Hassabis are headlining the major panels. Adding to the momentum, Meta's Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang is also set to engage in a debate on AI power and geopolitics.
