Tech major Google has introduced Googlebook, a new premium laptop lineup compatible with Gemini Intelligence, set to launch this fall. Positioned as a significant step up from traditional Chromebooks, which were introduced more than 15 years back, Googlebook merges ChromeOS and Android into a unified operating system. This aims to deliver smoother connectivity between phones and laptops and deeper Gemini AI capabilities at its core. Google said that it is partnering with manufacturers like Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo to produce the first wave of Googlebook devices.

Googlebook: Key Features

Building on the traditional “cursor,” which serves as the fundamental tool for users while navigating computers and laptops, Googlebook introduces the Magic Pointer, an AI-powered feature that activates when users wiggle the cursor. Gemini then provides quick, contextual suggestions based on whatever is on the screen. For example, by pointing at a date in an email, users can get instant meeting creation options. If a user selects two images, Gemini visualises them together immediately.

Another feature is Create your Widget. The custom widget creation tool allows users to describe what they want. Gemini then builds personalised widgets by searching the internet or pulling information from Google apps like Gmail and Calendar to create a personalised dashboard.

Googlebook also improves file access through Quick Access. Users can browse, search, and insert files directly from their Android phone into the laptop's file browser without any manual transfers.

The Googlebook has been introduced alongside Gemini Intelligence, which Google said will roll out in phases on Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones this summer and Googlebook laptops later this year. More Gemini Intelligence features can be expected in the future in the Googlebook.

What Happens To Chromebooks?

As of now, Google has confirmed that existing Chromebooks are not being discontinued. Chromebooks will continue to be available and supported alongside the new premium Googlebook category.
