Global consumer electronics conglomerate Sony has unveiled its latest FX2 Cinema Line camera, designed to fulfil the “cinematic dreams” of filmmakers. The camera, designed to ensure post-production workflow, is aimed at attracting solo filmmakers.

It is compact, lightweight, and has an expandable body. It supports uninterrupted 4K 60p movie recording, ensuring smooth performance.

Inspired by Sony’s top VENICE series, the FX2 features a 33MP Exmor R sensor, 15+ stops of dynamic range with S-Log3, three Log recording modes and enhanced still image functionality.

“As a gateway into a professional filmmaking career, the FX2 is a full-frame camera in the Cinema Line that inherits the visual philosophy of Sony's top-level VENICE series,” the company said on its website.

The device also has an adjustable-angle EVF and a large, user-friendly touchscreen interface that enhances shooting comfort and flexibility under different conditions. The camera features Log Shooting mode, allowing users to shoot JPEG and HEIF still images with the S-Log3 gamma curve used during a video shoot. This allows filmmakers to maintain a consistent colour grading workflow across both video and stills during post-production.

Sony has promised stunning cinematic visuals with its new launch, equipped with flexible frame rate options. Its advanced AI processing unit enables ‘Real-time Recognition AF’, accurately detecting humans, animals, birds, vehicles and even insects, it said. The device is designed to offer maximum editing flexibility for creators.
