Apple is gearing up for its annual launch event in September, which will be a curtain raiser for the iPhone 17 series. While big upgrades in the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max and the thin, light iPhone 17 “Air” are getting the most eyeballs, Apple’s base iPhones remain the best-selling ones, so we should keep a close eye on that as well.
Here’s all we know so far about the iPhone 17’s base model.

German site iPhone-ticker.de has recently indicated that Apple could unveil the iPhone 17 on Tuesday, Sept. 9, consistent with earlier claims from sources like Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. It is anticipated that pre-orders for the iPhone 17 will start on Sept. 12, with sales and deliveries scheduled to kick off on Sept. 19.

The iPhone 17 series is tipped to get a $50 price bump, according to Jefferies. If this hold true, iPhone 17’s price could rise to $849, from $799 for the iPhone 16.

GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu had recently indicated that the iPhone 17 will come equipped with the new and powerful A19 chipset, based on the 2nm process, contrary to previous rumours that it will continue with the A18 processor from the iPhone 16. However, the base variant may not see any improvements in RAM and continue featuring 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM.
The iPhone 17 is likely to feature a 6.3-inch display, bigger than the 6.1-inch screen on the iPhone 16. The base model is also tipped to get a 120Hz LTPO OLED panel this year, an upgrade from the 60Hz display of its predecessor. Also likely is an aluminium frame for the iPhone 17.
In terms of optics, the base iPhone 17 is expected to pack an upgraded 24MP front-facing camera, while the wide and ultrawide cameras may remain the same. The base variant could house a 3,600mAh battery.
The base iPhone 17 is expected to come in the following colours: black, white, pastel blue and light pink.
On the software side, the iPhone 17 will come with Apple’s recently announced iOS 26 features. These include a Liquid Glass translucent look on the Lock Screen, Control Centre, Home Screen, icons, and widgets, a floating bar at the bottom of the screen, and a minimalist Camera app’s navigation bar, among other features.
