Samsung recently posted details about upcoming enhancements to the Good Lock customisation suite, tied to the forthcoming One UI 8.5 update. In doing so, the company unintentionally revealed one of the most anticipated features for the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra. The Galaxy S26 lineup is slated to debut in late February, and reports indicate that a feature called “Privacy Display” will be exclusive to the Ultra variant.

What stands out in the Good Lock announcement is that a screenshot showed the Privacy Display toggle in the Quick Settings panel, effectively confirming that its coming to the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra's Privacy Display: How It Works

The Privacy Display feature is tipped to leverage advanced hardware to replicate the effect of a traditional privacy screen protector that are usually put to ward off phone-peekers. However, they have their own limitations, including lower brightness and colour alteration.

Samsung's Privacy Display, on the contrary, maintains colours and contrast quite well, plus performs in sunlight too, unaffected by the screen running in peak brightness mode, as per reports.

The feature restricts visibility of on-screen content to viewers from side angles, while the direct viewer sees everything normally. From off-centre angles, the content may appear blurred, blacked out, or distorted, based on user preferences.

The display incorporates Galaxy AI for smart control. For instance, when sensitive applications such as banking or digital wallets are launched, the privacy mode might engage automatically. It could also sense nearby individuals — especially in a public setting like transport — and obscure their view without any user input.
