A new report brings bad news for the Galaxy S26 Plus as the phone risks being an afterthought in Samsung's lineup. The report noted that as mass production for the series nears, Samsung may reuse last year's specifications for non-Ultra models.
Android Authority reported the reason as the shortage of time, which could disappoint fans. The Galaxy S26 Ultra, however, will come with a new display featuring privacy functions. Samsung is expected to unveil the S26 series in late February.
For non-Ultra models, so far, the leaks indicate little excitement as it will likely come with minimal upgrades. The report noted that the Plus version may be nearly identical to the S25 Plus.
According to Korea's The Elec, the phone will enter mass production with the same 6.66-inch screen as the S25 Plus. Samsung had considered upgrading the display to a new OLED made for the Galaxy S26 Edge. That plan was later dropped. The S26 Plus will now likely use the same panel as its predecessor. There could still be minor improvements in the OLED's internal layers, it noted.
The report also said that Samsung had little time to develop the Galaxy S26 Plus. The company had briefly planned to slim down the series, replacing the base model with the Galaxy S26 Pro and the Plus with the Edge. That plan was reversed in late October, bringing back the three-phone lineup. As of now, the future of the S26 Edge remains uncertain.
Due to these developments, Samsung did not have enough time to redesign the Galaxy S26 Plus, the report added. There could be a major update in the chip as Samsung might introduce the newer Exynos 2600 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, but it will depend on the region.
While the base model and Plus remain similar to last year, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to see more significant changes. Notably, it will feature the new Samsung M14 OLED panel, offering lower power consumption and hardware-based privacy features. Samsung is also anticipated to produce nearly 3.6 million units of the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
